Third Annual Fundraiser a huge success!

We are very excited to announce that during our 2009 fundraising campaign which included our annual INSPIRE!africa fundraiser held on November 19, 2009, we raised $65,000.  This represents a 33% increase in the amount raised during our 2008 campaign.  INSPIRE!africa is gaining momentum and continuing to grow thanks to you.

We are overwhelmed with this success and we owe it all to you, our supporters for your generosity and commitment to the survivors in Rwanda. Thank you!

For those of you who were not able to attend our November fundraiser at Webster Galleries in Calgary, the event started with African drumming and dancing by the students at Calgary Academy.  The students did a wonderful job and we thank them for their contribution of music and dance to the event.

This year we had the sincere pleasure of having Denyse Umutoni, a Rwanda genocide survivor and orphan head of household, as our guest speaker.  She shared her insights about her country, the genocide and how she was able to move past the impacts of the genocide.  She is a very inspiring person and we thank her for her for joining us.  INSPIRE!africa president Margaret McQuiston also provided an update accompanied by recent pictures on the projects which INSPIRE!africa has supported the past year (see 2009 Annual Report) and our priorities for 2010.

DaisyThroughout the evening, we held a very successful silent auction with 35 donated items as well as providing guests with the unique opportunity to bid on ‘blind’ auction items of Rwandan crafts.  In addition this year, the energy in the room was a buzz as we ‘built a cow’ by selling pieces of our ‘Daisy’.

Everyone enjoyed the magnificent appetizers prepared by Manna Catering. The feedback we received was very positive; guests told us how much they enjoyed the evening and appreciated our guest speaker Denyse speaking from the heart of a Rwandan.

Please keep us in mind for our 4th Annual Fundraiser planned for November 2010.

Volunteer Trip to Rwanda 2010

We are planning to take another group of volunteers to Rwanda for 2 weeks this coming spring/summer.  The group will assist in teaching English at the Learning Centre and see, first hand, all the projects we are supporting.  They will also have an opportunity to experience Rwanda, including the gorillas and a safari.  The trip will be similar to the one we organized in 2008.  Information on that trip can be found on our website (www.InspireAfrica.org) under News and Events and click on Rwanda Trip 2008.  If you are interested in coming, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and plan to attend an Information Evening on January 12.  Time and location to be determined.
