Our donors have once again shown incredible generosity.  Thanks to you, we raised $127,000 at our fundraiser this year.  On behalf of Rwanda’s survivors, we are sincerely grateful.

“The Future of Rwanda: Helping the next generation after the Rwanda genocide” was the theme of this year’s fabulous fundraiser held November 19th at Webster’s Galleries in Calgary. Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to bid on fantastic items in the silent and blind auctions, and shop for Rwanda inspired art cards and handicrafts, as well as books.

The excitement increased during the evening as guests donated toward “building a cow”, by buying sections of our cow “Daisy’.  By the end of the evening we had 4 “Daisy’s”!

We were delighted with both of our speakers who have travelled to Rwanda recently and shared with us how Rwanda is moving forward, and how supporters like INSPIRE!africa have made that possible.

Christine Magill, winner of the Canadian Living magazine Me to We Educator Award spoke about why she chose to donate her winnings from her award to INSPIRE!africa.  She said it was because; ‘I know where donations will go and that the organization in accountable, and I know that the projects are actually meaningful and result in real impact.”

We once again heard from Jean Claude Munyezamu who was Will Ferguson’s travelling companion and feature in his new book, Road Trip Rwanda. He explained it is important to support youth because if you don’t provide something positive for them to do, they are more likely to turn in the other direction.

It was a great mix of long time supporters and new faces.  Together we all learned about INSPIRE!africa’s Rwanda partners and what they have accomplished with your donations from last year.
