You make the difference!!!

During our volunteer trip to Rwanda in May, everyone we met asked us to extend their sincere thanks to you, a valued INSPIRE!africa supporter. You are now their Canadian friend, and they very much appreciate everything you provided to better their lives. You have also given them hope -  hope for a brighter future and hope that they will achieve their dreams.

How often do you get a chance to make such a big difference in someone’s life for such a small investment?

The Rwanda genocide was over 20 years ago, and many young Rwandans are still struggling with their losses. Many young folks need counselling support and legal advice, but that can be inaccessible and very costly. INSPIRE!africa is pleased to be partnering with AERG, a Rwandan orphan students’ association, on a vital new countrywide counselling and legal aid telephone helpline for those who are too far from the city to get help.

It made all the difference for young survivor Celestine...

Celestine is a secondary school student who is 22 years old. Both of Celestine’s parents were murdered during the genocide. Every April during the genocide commemoration period, Celestine’s memories of the genocide were so troubling that she had difficulty speaking to others. Fortunately a friend told her to call the AERG counselling helpline.

“When I called I was experiencing stomach aches, headaches, anxiety, loneliness, and I couldn’t really speak. I wasn’t taking care of myself and had lost interest in life. I didn’t know what to do.”

“I was happy that the counsellor on the helpline understood me and explored my problems with Celestine so that I was able to speak about them. She also helped me to get a place in subsidized housing. Now I’m studying and life is going on. The helpline is very important to me because now I feel well. I was able to find solutions to my problems. AERG also gave me training on trauma crisis at school so I’m able to help others. I will keep using the helpline too.”

We urgently need your support right now so more youth like Celestine can access caring support from the counsellors on the helpline.

Your donation of $300 can cover the entire cost of providing legal help to a survivor to recover their parent’s land that was taken when they were murdered. Whatever amount you can invest will be put straight to work to help our young Rwandan friends.

Please donate online today at Canada Helps or send a cheque and the donation form http://www.inspireafrica.org/index.php/how-to-help  to the address below by October 15th.

Learn more about the Counselling Helpline and the impact of your donation at our Annual Gala on November 20 (more info at inspireafrica.org). We hope you will attend and invite friends so other caring people in our community get the chance to be inspired just the way all of us have.

In the words from a Rwandan survivor helped by you and INSPIRE!africa:

“Many people pass through this world and leave it just as they found it. But people like you take the time to do special things for others that make the world more beautiful. You made the difference and we appreciate the timing of your help. We just wanted to let you know that you are special to us. Thank you!”

In gratitude,

Margaret McQuiston, Alexandra MacDonald, Diane Altwasser, and Monica Ha

P.S. You are helping to rebuild a vibrant Rwanda, one survivor at a time.

INSPIRE!africa is planning to raise an estimated amount of $100,000 net contributions that will go directly to projects in Rwanda. It will cost our organization approximately 10% of the gross contributions received in order to raise those funds which includes ticket sales and hosting the annual fundraiser.
