We hope this finds you well and enjoying the holiday season.

Second Annual Fundraiser

We are writing to share with you some inspiring news.  At the annual INSPIRE!africa fundraiser, held on November 19 this year, we raised $50,000.  This represents a 40% increase in the amount donated through our first fundraiser held in early 2007.

We are overwhelmed with this success and we owe it all to you, our supporters for your generosity and commitment to the work we are doing in Rwanda.  Thank you!

For those of you who were not able to attend, the event was held at Webster Galleries in Calgary and the programme started with African drumming by the Calgary Academy Grade 4 music class.  The 12 students did a wonderful job and we thank them for their contribution of music to the event.

Volunteers who traveled to Rwanda this summer made a heartfelt presentation about some of the people and projects we saw this summer and which INSPIRE!africa is supporting.  Throughout the evening, we held a very successful silent auction with 50 donated items and we held a “blind” auction of Rwandan crafts.

We also sold copies of the Presents Presents book (a children's book about ethical giving, see below), Arbonne gift candles and crafts in support of Ubuntu Edmonton, another organization supporting widows in Rwanda.  Everyone enjoyed the magnificent appetizers prepared by Manna Catering.  The feedback we received was very positive; guests told us how much they enjoyed the evening and appreciated hearing the stories about survivors in Rwanda.  This is an annual event, so please keep us in mind for next year.

Last Minute Gift Items

drumsIf you have not completed all your holiday shopping, we have someideas for you. It is not too late to make a donation in any denomination to INSPIRE!africa or purchase a goat for $40, both of which will make a great difference in the life of a genocide survivor. We have gift cards you can send to the recipient of either type of donation along with some information about how the donation will be used.

We also have copies of The Presents' Presents children's book. This beautifully illustrated book is about ethical giving where INSPIRE!africa is featured. The Presents' Presents is a true compelling story of young Rae who makes the shift from wanting more and more presents to understanding the happiness that comes from "wanting" or "having" is not a lasting happiness.  Rae and her friends learn that giving and feeling connected to others brings them more joy as they use their birthdays to raise money for worthy causes.

If you would like gift cards or copies of The Presents' Presents please send us an e-mail as soon as possible so we can arrange pick-up in time for Christmas.

From INSPIRE!africa we thank you for your continued support and wish you and your families a meaningful holiday season and all the best for 2009.
